Ecologists have shown that the shape of the limpet shell depends on how rough the sea is. In very rough conditions the shell grows rather flat, so that it minimises its resistance to the waves. In more sheltered conditions the shell grows much taller and more pointed - like yours. So they are another indicator of the sheltered conditions in the bay.
