Polychromatic polychaete Pomatoceras.

Pomatoceras triquiter, a polychaete bristle worm. These are pretty common on Runswick Bay beach but the tubes are usually a uniform chalky white. This lot appear to have had the decorators in. Below, another bristle worm Spirorbis borealis which lives on seaweed fronds.Normal-coloured Pomatoceros below:

Pretty spooky: I was about to email you to ask why you haven't yet (as far as I know) linked to this frankly marvellous aerial photo, and to enquire what all the purple stuff is at the north end (you might need to scroll up a bit). Have the decorators been in there too?
